Recent significant advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and the development of large-scale language models such as ChatGPT have caught the attention of regulators around the world. Policymakers are stepping up their efforts to implement laws to control the potential risks of AI and to hold developers accountable for the behaviour of their systems. However, regulating dynamic and evolving technologies is no easy task. The technology is developing rapidly, while legislation is slow. This article therefore looks at the regulatory challenges posed by generative AI, using the scope of the Artificial Intelligence Act as a reference point.
